Project

Policy evaluation framework for Scottish Development International (SDI)

The overall task is to assess and estimate the impact on firm productivity of Scottish Development International (SDI) internationalisation and inward investment support.

Description of the project

The project uses the Annual Respondents Database (ARD) matched to Global Connections Survey (GCS) data with additional information on assisted firms.

The project will estimate separately for exporters/outward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and for inward FDI whether:

  • exporters, FDI subsidiaries and Scottish multinationals are more productive i.e. do they increase Scottish productivity growth and is this due to their becoming more productive prior to entry and/or post-entry.
  • assistance from SDI leads to any additional productivity effects
