Project

The economics of commuting behaviour: studies using the British Household Panel Survey

Studying the relationship between commuting and life satisfaction.

Description of the Project

The aim of this project is to study the relationship between commuting and levels of life satisfaction using data from the BHPS and Understanding Society. We are applying to use the Secure Data Service Access version of the datasets since this will allow us to identify the area in which commuters live more accurately and to identify how different forms of transport vary geographically.

Similarly, we will be able to get improved estimates of important variables such as travel costs. The data could also potentially be linked to other sources of information, such as census data on car ownership, which may be relevant to commuting behaviours.
