Training

We provide you with face-to-face training to become a member of the Secure Data Service and to access and use data securely.

Training forms a large part of our security philosophy and we consider face-to-face training to be important in ensuring that researchers understand

  • the rationale for the service
  • how the service works and how to use it
  • how to make statistical outputs safe
  • the consequences of any breaches
  • the development of a trusted and supported research community

Training covers:

  • an introduction to the training, the service and other similar services
  • data security and personal responsibility, including legal background, security model, breaches and penalties
  • Statistical Disclosure Control - how to make statistical outputs safe and what principles are used, including hands-on exercises.
  • using the Secure Data Service - about the service and how to use it, how to obtain outputs and how to use the service safely

To be eligible for our training you need to complete and submit an Approved/Accredited Researcher form - see Applying.
